Well, it’s quite obvious why homeowners choose patio pavers in New York City over other paving alternatives. If your home ground looks too flat, you must install a patio paver, which doesn’t take much time. However, according to Dominick Ciccarelli, a licensed contractor with New York State, most people install pavers incorrectly. As a result, they rip up the very next year of installation.
Are you considering to install patio paver in your home? Wait, before you dive into the process, here are the common paver installation mistakes you need to know. Below Dominick Ciccarelli has explained some of the tips for installing patio paver correctly in NYC.
Failing to have proper drainage – You don’t want a wading pool in your front yard, right? Therefore, before you install a patio, proper drainage is necessary. Snow and rain play an important role in patio life. If you install pavers without proper drainage, you may end having a wading pool. Make sure you keep a slight slope while installing patio. One-quarter inch difference per foot length is a good idea. Also, determine the direction you want the water to drain.
Avoid keeping too much space between the pavers – Always remember to use spacers while installing pavers so that the gaps in-between are uniform. Properly lined up, and closed pavers not only look good but it also gives you a stronger, more stable patio.
Compact the sand base – If you’re looking for a firm, solid surface, compacting the sand beneath your pavers is really important. Well, this doesn’t mean to get your children to jump up and down on the paver. Make use of a mechanical compactor. You can dampen the sand to easily compact and level out the sand base.
Do not skimp on filler sand – There are many people who shimp on the sand to cut down the cost but should always avoid it. When it comes to filling the sand, be generous and fill it in tightly between pavers. The tight filling will not only keep weeds out, but it will also hold pavers in place when the ground thaws and freezes.
Never ignore the edges – Usually, a paver patio starts to damage from the edges. The center of the patio is strongly protected, but the edges are more prone to wear. So, make sure you invest enough time and money to install your edges properly.
